Moms Confess: The Weirdest Pregnancy Side Effects Ever!
Pregnancy can be quite a roller coaster ride for the expectant mother. No matter how many books you read or how much experience you gather from others, you’ll still have a lot of room for surprise. And shock! A similar thing happened to some of our soon-to-be mother readers. While they were expecting some of the pregnancy symptoms, they were completely taken aback with the weird side effects they actually experienced. Here are some of their confessions:
Hairy Belly
“I had heard about excessive hair growth on the chin and less hair fall. But I was shocked to notice that I had developed a good amount of hair right under my belly button. Of course, I did try to get them waxed regularly. However, the pregnancy cramps sometimes made it hard for me to sit through a waxing session. This patch of hair under my belly button also caused a lot of embarrassment to me during my doctor visits.” Pavitra
Toe Muscle Cramps
“A muscle cramp was normal for me during my college days when I’d participate in athletics. Those were usually the calf muscles or ankle sprains, most of which would subside after a day’s rest. And it had been years since I’d ran a race and was least expecting the muscle pull to show up during my pregnancy. What’s odd is that it affected my toenails. Even a slight strain, like trying to wear my chappals, would trigger a weird muscle cramp that would pull away the big toe from the finger next to it. Though temporary, it was painful nevertheless.” Naila
Drooling – Not Just Over Food
“Being a foodie that I was, drooling did not seem like a pregnancy symptom to me at all. And often, I’d associate it to pregnancy food cravings as well. However, it was only when I started waking up to a wet pillow or the sofa cushion that I realized my pregnancy hormones had a hand behind this mischief. I was later told that it’ll go away after childbirth. For now, I just keep an extra cloth napkin underneath my chin.” Shekhinah
Skin Tags Everywhere
“During my third trimester, I suddenly started growing skin tags all over my face. Some even developed right above my eyelashes! I was aware of skin pigmentation. But this was a total, ugly surprise. But my doctor put me at ease by telling me that these will soon disappear after childbirth. And they did go away a month after my son was born.” Nabeela
Loud Belching
“Why should boys have all the fun? Often, my husband would burp loudly to irritate me and have fun at my expense. But, pregnancy created this weird situation for me where I’d belch at the drop of a hat as if I’d devoured a horse! This happened despite me eating small, healthy meals, much to the annoyance of my husband. I guess it was nature’s way of getting back at my husband. I wasn’t complaining.” Smitha
That Stink In The Air – Not Me!
“A funny sound followed by a weird stink. No prizes for guessing what it was. Yes, I was farting my blues away during my pregnancy. This would happen even when I was in bed and I had no idea how to deal with it except ignore it or laugh about it. Full marks to my husband for bearing the torture silently.” Jagriti
What? My Nails Grew Again?
“I think pregnancy was the time when my nails grew the fastest. I’d take pains to trim and keep them in good shape. And behold! They’d seem to have grown in a week’s time. But I did enjoy painting them with a fresh color each time.” Hanna
No, It’s Not My Baby Bump. Just Gas!
“I knew that I’d show only after my fifth month or so, considering I had a very lean built too. However, the gas and bloating during my first trimester gave me a very pregnant belly right at the beginning, often prompting me to clarify.” Mouli
