The Sonu Nigam Marriage - Sonu Nigam

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of reading a Sonu Nigam interview, you will notice that the singer isn’t afraid to speak his mind, but even in his candidness there is a certain tehzeeb that gives away his upbringing. Sonu Nigam Marriage: A Bengali Extravaganza

The Madhurima And Sonu Nigam marriage was something of a ‘given’. They meet, as he quotes, on 24th December 1995, a good six years before their wedding. Their engagement actually happened on Valentines Day. Sonu tied the knot with his long time girlfriend and Kolkata local Madhurima in a ceremony bordering on the opulent. Bear in mind that the year was 2002 (the wedding took place in February) and the concept of secretive and hidden – if not dialled down – weddings had not come to grip Bollywood. The erstwhile host of the ever popular Sa Re Ga Ma as well his beautiful bride went through their marriage rites at the gorgeous Nalban Boating Complex a little way away from Kolkata.

The Madhurima Sonu Nigam marriage fell in with traditions, despite its extravagance. The groom, who descended upon the lavish venue on horseback, had earlier exchanged rings with his wife-to-be at a grand ceremony at a Kolkata hotel the prior evening in the presence of both sets of family members.

The venue featured – amidst tight security – gorgeous floral decorations consisting of red roses and white florets and was also embellished with baby pink and green dupattas, that when coupled with the ‘floating’ stage that was constructed over the lake, produced a most delightful ambiance for the entirely special ceremony. The esteemed guests, numbering 700 in total, then feasted on a most lavish vegetarian spread – detailed in a four page menu – that consisted of everything from Italian to kofta chaat. Among those in attendance were Babul Supriyo, Anup Jalota, Shilpa Shetty, Sandeep Chowta and Nigam’s close friend Abhijeet.

“I met her at a programme about six and half years back here and we have been friends since then. Madhurima is very good at heart and that is why I chose to marry her,” said a chirpy Nigam after the wedding.
