Urmila Matondkar marriage with Kashmiri businessman and actor Mohsin Akhtar Mirr has been as hush-hush as her contemporary Priety’s with Mr.Goodenough. While Urmila Matondkar may have forayed into cinema as a child artist with 1980s Marathi film Zaakol, her breakthrough role was alongside Kamal Haasan in the 1989 Malayalam film Chanakyan after which she went on to star in a number of Bollywood films, working closely with Ram Gopal Varma in the process, including films like 1995s musical drama Rangeela, 1997s Judaai and 1998 crime thriller, Satya. All three of those films earned her a Filmfare nomination, but more than anything, the roles earned her the tag of Bollywood’s sex symbol. Not one to relent, Urmila won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for her role as a possessed woman in 2003s Bhoot (also directed by Ram Gopal Varma), which was among the many intense roles that she did at the time, a time that saw her really come into her own as an actress. With all that she has going for her, news of an upcoming Mohsin Urmila Matondkar marriage never really hit the limelight, until now of course.

Secret weddings seem to be all the rage in Bollywood these days, with couples opting to keep their fans in the dark and put their own privacy and sanctity at top priority. First we had Preity Zinta get married in an entirely hush-hush manner, and now Urmila, who too decided that the dates and details of her nuptials were of nobody’s concern, but hers.

However, when choosing to go down this route, she has betrayed one little detail. The fact that Manish Malhotra was the only connection to Bollywood other than herself that was present at the wedding. Piecing together the story of how they met thus becomes easier.

Just How They Came To Be

Urmila Matondkar Marriage - Manish Malhotra Design

From our understanding, Urmila Matondkar and Mohsin Mir first met each other at Manish Malhotra’s niece’s wedding in December 2014. And make no mistake about it, it was love at first sight at Riddhi’s wedding for the two. The ten year age gap between the two didn’t matter in the slightest and the two got on like a house on fire. So while Manish Malhotra may not have been directly involved in making the match, it was through him that the both of them met.

Adding to the glut of secretive and low-key weddings in Bollywood of late, Mir and Urmila too got wed in Mumbai when none were the wiser. Urmila said of the wedding that they “kept it an exclusive wedding with just family and friends at the celebration. Since our families wanted the wedding to be a low-key affair. We mutually decided to keep it private. We seek your blessings on embarking this new journey of our lives.”

The Mohsin-Urmila Matondkar marriage was solemnized according to Hindu rituals, and Urmila looked stunning in a highly embroidered, tomato red, bespoke Manish Malhotra (of course) creation – a lehenga from Manish’s Regal Threads Benarascollection. As the classic Maharashtrian bride, she also had the green bangles, and she finished off her resplendent look with the traditional maatha patti and heavy gold jewellery which included a few gorgeous long string necklaces.

Mir looking every bit the dashing man he is in a beautiful coral coloured sherwani, with light embroidery in white.

Manish, a good friend of both the bride and the groom also said that “He’s a simple guy from Kashmir, now settled in Mumbai. The wedding was a really private affair and I was the only one from the film industry over there. She looked so happy and I hope this happiness lasts forever.” We wish them the same, of course.

Manish himself rocked a sleek navy blue kurta with white pyjamas. He also shared a picture of the bride on Twitter with a hearty message of congratulations.

Ram Gopal Verma Speaks

It is no secret that Ram Gopal Verma is an admirer of Urmila; in fact just look at her filmography! Now, the man who once wrote Urmila a letter in which he stated that he was mesmerized by her beauty wished the couple a very happy and “Rangeela” married life.

RGV, who has worked with Urmila in over 6 movies, also reiterated that his former and rumoured muse is the most beautiful woman he has ever worked with. High praise from the Satya director!
