Unlocking Expert Duty Roulette in FFXIV Dawntrail

Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail expansion introduces exciting endgame content, including the Expert Duty Roulette, a vital feature for players seeking efficient tomestone farming. This roulette queues you randomly into level 100 dungeons, offering substantial rewards like tomestones of aesthetics. To access it, players must first complete specific post-main scenario quest (MSQ) dungeons. This guide details the prerequisites, step-by-step unlocking process, rewards, and strategies to maximize your progress.

Why Expert Roulette Matters in Dawntrail Endgame

Expert Roulette streamlines the grind for tomestones, which are currency for purchasing high-item-level gear. In Dawntrail, these tomestones prepare players for upcoming patches like 7.05, where limited-time variants become available. Running the roulette daily yields 80 tomestones per completion, far surpassing individual dungeon runs. It’s especially crucial after finishing the level 100 MSQ quest ‘Dawntrail,’ as it unlocks variety beyond the initial endgame dungeon.

The system encourages exploration of two additional level 100 dungeons: Tender Valley and The Strayborough Deadwalk. Completing each once activates the roulette, allowing queues into any of the three available dungeons. This setup promotes replayability and gear progression without repetitive solo queuing.

Prerequisites for Accessing Expert Content

Before pursuing Expert Roulette, ensure your character meets these requirements:

• Reach level 100 on your character.
• Complete the Dawntrail main scenario questline, culminating in the ‘Dawntrail’ quest.
• Have access to Tuliyollal, Shaaloani, Solution Nine, and Living Memory zones.
• No need to finish side quests fully—just enter and complete the dungeons once.

These steps align with standard FFXIV progression, building on prior expansions’ mechanics where roulettes unlock after key content clears.

Step-by-Step: Unlocking Tender Valley

Tender Valley, set in the arid Shaaloani desert, draws players into ancient Ronka ruins teeming with hostile cacti and forgotten relics. This dungeon kicks off the Expert Roulette journey.

1. Travel to Tuliyollal’s Bayside Bevy Marketplace.
2. Locate NPC Zeychian (or Zeycihan) at coordinates X:14.0, Y:12.5 (slight variations reported around X:14.6, Y:13.4).
3. Accept the blue side quest ‘It Belongs in a Museum.’
4. Follow quest markers to Shaaloani desert.
5. Enter Tender Valley, defeat enemies, explore ruins, and complete the instance.

Players describe Tender Valley as a thrilling delve into archaeological mysteries, battling sentient plant life and uncovering Ronka artifacts. Success here grants first clear achievements and loot.

Step-by-Step: Unlocking The Strayborough Deadwalk

The Strayborough Deadwalk offers a chilling contrast—a haunted theme park in Living Memory with eerie attractions and spectral foes. It’s often praised as one of Dawntrail’s most engaging dungeons.

1. Head to Solution Nine.
2. Find NPC Nostalgia in the resistance bar at X:18.4, Y:18.1.
3. Pick up the quest ‘Something Stray in the Neighborhood.’
4. Proceed to Living Memory as directed.
5. Clear The Strayborough Deadwalk, navigating its spooky environments and bosses.

This dungeon’s unique theme park aesthetic, combined with fun mechanics, makes it a fan favorite for group runs.

Activating Expert Duty Roulette

Once both Tender Valley and The Strayborough Deadwalk are cleared (no quest completion required beyond entry), Expert Roulette appears in your Duty Roulette menu under level 100 options. Queue up solo or with a party—the system matches you randomly into one of the three dungeons: the post-MSQ starter, Tender Valley, or Strayborough Deadwalk.
