Top Defenders for EA FC 24 Career Mode

Building a rock-solid defense is the cornerstone of success in EA FC 24 Career Mode. Whether you’re aiming for domestic glory or international triumphs, selecting the right defenders can make or break your campaign. This guide dives deep into the standout players across positions, highlighting their ratings, attributes, and long-term value. From world-class center backs to dynamic full backs and promising wonderkids, you’ll find recommendations to fortify your team.

Why Prioritize Elite Defenders in Career Mode

In EA FC 24, defenders aren’t just about stopping attacks—they contribute to build-up play, set pieces, and counter-attacks. High-rated players provide immediate impact, while those with growth potential evolve into legends under your management. Factors like pace, tackling, physicality, and passing are crucial. Career Mode’s scouting system rewards smart signings, especially with budget constraints in lower leagues.

Top defenders excel in key stats: defending (tackling, marking, interceptions), physical (strength, jumping, stamina), and pace for recoveries. Women’s football integration adds depth, with stars from FC Barcelona Femení and others shining brightly.

Premier Center Backs to Anchor Your Line

Center backs (CBs) form the spine of any defense. In EA FC 24, the elite tier boasts 89 overall ratings, offering unmatched aerial dominance and composure.

• Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool, 32 years old, OVR 89): A towering presence with elite defending (90) and physicality (87). His leadership suits veteran squads, though age limits growth.
• Rúben Dias (Manchester City, 26 years old, OVR 89): Balances pace (72), strength (87), and passing (81). Key to City’s treble success, he’s ideal for possession-based tactics.
• Mapi León (FC Barcelona Femení, 28 years old, OVR 89): Exceptional in women’s game with top-tier marking (92) and composure (91). Versatile for hybrid squads.

Stepping down to 87-86 OVR, options like Marquinhos (PSG, 29, OVR 87) offer reliability with 88 defending, while Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich, 24, OVR 86) promises future gains (potential 90+).

Right Backs: Speed and Delivery Experts

Right backs (RBs) must defend wide areas while supporting attacks. Lucy Bronze leads with her 87 OVR, blending pace (85) and crossing (86).

• Lucy Bronze (FC Barcelona Femení, OVR 87): Best overall RB, with dribbling (85) for overlaps.
• Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool, OVR 86): Unrivaled vision (92 passing) for male players, though defending (78) needs cover.

Other notables include Kyle Walker (Man City, OVR 85) for blistering pace (94) and Reece James (Chelsea, OVR 84) for balanced attributes.

Left Backs: Defensive Maestros with Flair

Left backs (LBs) mirror RBs but Fridolina Rolfö tops the charts at 87 OVR, thanks to her pace (88) and defending (86).

• Fridolina Rolfö (FC Barcelona Femení, OVR 87): Elite stamina (92) for box-to-box runs.
• Andrew Robertson (Liverpool, OVR 86): Tireless worker with 95 stamina and 85 crossing.

Strategic Tips for Signing and Developing Defenders

Budget wisely: Premium CBs cost £80M+, but loans or free agents like aging stars work early. Train defending and physical drills to boost growth. Pair tall CBs with pacey full backs for balance. In-game, use 4-2-3-1 or 3-5-2 to maximize overlaps.

Women’s league integration allows cross-signings, diversifying your squad. Monitor form and morale for peak performance.

Common Formations Featuring Top Defenders

• 4-3-3: Van Dijk + Dias central, Robertson LWB, Alexander-Arnold RWB.
• 3-4-3: Araújo, De Ligt, Saliba back three with Rolfö and Bronze wing backs.
• 5-3-2: Double pivot with Gvardiol for youth focus.
