One Month In: 15 Things You’ll Know After 30 Days Of Your Relationship

By Jayant MenonJayant Menon  •

While the so-called “honeymoon period” of any romantic relationship lasts anywhere from 6 months to 1 year, depending on who you ask, there is no doubt that you will come across certain traits or facts in the first one month of your relationship which are hard to miss. And for better or worse, you will be wiser about the status of your fledgling relationship and will have a clear picture of whether the ‘one’ is a prospective long term partner or an Adonis or Aphrodite who you’d rather admire from a safe distance (and we’re not talking about their nose picking habit).

1. They’re Normal People

Yes, they’re good looking, or charitable, or whatever else drew you to them first, but they’re normal people with traits and preference, and (gasp!) faults.

2. You Can Live With Their Faults

Sometimes, there might be something about the other person that society construes as icky, but you’re perfectly okay with – or okay with them doing.

3. There’s Things That You Can’t Handle

Overly bigoted assumptions, poor table manners, no respect for the staff at a restaurant – the list is endless. These are the little things that you just cant let go.

4. Their Friends Are Now Your Friends

If you’ve been dating a month, chances are you’ve run into their friends, and guess what, since the two of you are a couple, those friends are now your friends too.

5. You Like Some Of Them

A couple of people in that circle of friends may make for superb company with their witty banter and intelligent and sensitive conversation, adherence to time and so on, and go on to improve your life a long way.

6. Some Of Them You Won’t Like

Others, still, might just be your SOs dearest friends, but you can’t quite figure out what you SO sees in them, you certainly can’t spot any positives.

7. The Timing Isn’t Right

It isn’t that they’re not wonderful people, it’s just that the timing isn’t quite right. Maybe you’re moving on from an ex (or they are) or just the fact that you’re both in different phases of your life; timing can be a hard thing to nail.

8. The Chemistry Isn’t Right

Sometimes, the timing can be on point and it may seem like you have finally met the ‘one’ and it all seems to be working out, but one month in and you realize that perhaps you had misjudged just how compatible the two of you are.

9. The Sex Is Perfect

Sometimes you meet someone and it just seems that they know what makes you tick – in bed. They hit all of the right grooves, make the right moves, and every session is as memorable and passionate as the last.

10. The Sex Needs Work

On the other hand, while the other facts of the relationship might be to your liking, the sex may need some work. Sex takes communication, conviction and passion after all, and those things may need some time to make their way into your bedroom.

11. Their Mum Is Really Sweet

If you’ve run into their parents, or have been introduced even, you may find that much of their marvellous personality and charm is a direct result of how they were raised – wonderfully.

12. The Folks Aren’t To Keen

Alternatively, you may just also find out – and not even first hand – that their family aren’t your biggest fans, or of their son or daughter dating anyone just at the moment, or anything else really. Bummer.

13. You Have Completely Different Tastes

While issues as insignificant as these are ignored at the time of courtship, spending some time around each other really spells out the different preferences and looks on life you share. He wants pizza at the movie theatre, and you, tofu at the mall. He’s ambitious, you’re looking to settle in the country, etc and so forth.

14. They May Be The One

While not the most sound judgement at the tender relationship age of 1 month, sometimes you just know, and you’re happy, and you don’t say it to anyone except maybe your best friend, but you just know.

15. They May Not Be The One

Alternatively, sometimes you can feel in your gut the fact that they’re not the one for you, no matter how cozy things may seem at the moment. There can be a million and one reasons for this, but usually, the simpler ones like soon being too far away, or them wanting to marry real quick are the most convincing and readily apparent.
