The Story Of Jaya And Amitabh Bachchan Marriage And Their Love

Amitabh bachchan is one of Bollywood’s favourite heroes. Whether it is in Don, Sholay or Deewar, this six-foot tall man is, without a doubt, one of the biggest stars of Bollywood. As we all know, his son Abhishek’s wedding with Aishwarya Rai was a grand affair. But the Jaya – Amitabh Bachchan marriage was a more subdued affair, and was kept under the wraps, away from the piercing glare of the media. But how exactly did the romance between the two of them blossom?

Well, they met at the prestigious Pune Film Institute. Jaya was one of the bright and promising students of FTII. For Jaya, this was the moment when she felt the first stirrings of affection for Amitabh. The famous director, T.K Abbas brought along with him a coterie of bright young stars, and of course, Amitabh was among them. While their romance may not have blossomed here and a Jaya – Amitabh Bachchan marriage seemed like the unlikeliest of events, there were more opportunities for them to get to know each other as time wore on, and Jaya herself stepped into the profession of acting.

They got to know each other better when Jaya and Amitabh met on the sets of Guddi. By that time, Jaya was more established in the industry than Amitabh, who was still struggling to make his mark in the industry. In an interview, recounting her early feelings for Amitabh, Jaya said, “I was introduced to him on the sets of Guddi. I was impressed by him and somewhat in awe as he was Harivanshrai Bachchan’s son. I fell in love with him very soon.” For Amitabh, it was at the sets of Ek Nazar that he too fell in love with this beautiful lady. It was this love that they felt for each other that really gave them the firm foundation to build a marriage that has lasted over 42 years now! It is said that many people did not really approve of their match. Rajesh Khanna, being one of Jaya’s close friends, repeatedly warned her against pursuing their relationship. But the love birds did not really pay much heed to the nay-sayers. After all, as the song goes, “wise friends are not why love is real.” Now the story goes that Amitabh has promised to take a trip abroad with Jaya if their film Zanjeer became a success. And as we know, it was a huge hit at the box office. But, Amitabh’s father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan had serious qualms about his son traveling abroad without getting married to Jaya first. And so, Amitabh decided that it was time for them to tie the knot. When Jaya consented, the Jaya – Amitabh bachchan marriage was rather hastily arranged and the couple left for London the very next day! Their very first visit to the UK became a honeymoon!

The wedding was not very grand. It was not held at either the bride or the groom’s house as this would have warranted too much attention from the media. So their clandestine wedding was arranged at a friend’s house in Skylark Building in Malabar Hills. But somehow, as is the norm with these things, reports started leaking of the impending nuptials between two of the hottest young stars in the industry, and people did gather in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the two Bollywood stars as they tied the knot. The wedding was conducted in the traditional Bengali fashion. Jaya looked like a picture of perfection as she wore a gorgeous, traditional, deep red sari. Her dress was embellished by some classic, traditional gold jewellery that really took her beauty to a very different level. Her simple yet elegant maang tikka, the traditional red bindi that adorned her face was charming indeed. She also looked quite shy and bashful, making her one of the most traditional, gorgeous brides that we have ever seen. Amitabh too looked tall and dapper in his white suit and sehera.

Together, the two of them must have broken quite a bit of hearts that day! Though there have been several rumours about Amitabh’s clandestine relationships with other women, this couple has managed to stay together through everything. Not only that, they have managed to raise two lovely children while keeping up with their busy careers! This Bollywood power couple is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and we wish them many more years of happiness ahead!
