Switching Trainer Gender in Pokémon Unite

Pokémon Unite does not permit direct changes to a trainer’s selected gender after initial character creation. Players must rely on cosmetic adjustments or new accounts to achieve a different look.

Understanding Trainer Customization Limits

The game’s design fixes gender at the start to align clothing and accessory availability with that choice. This encourages purchases of gender-specific items, impacting monetization strategies.

Customization options include hairstyles, outfits, eye colors, skin tones, and facial features. These allow significant visual shifts toward opposite-gender aesthetics without altering core settings.

Step-by-Step Appearance Overhaul Guide

To mimic a gender switch visually:

• Access your profile from the main menu.
• Navigate to the closet or makeover section.
• Select the scissors icon for hairstyle changes—choose styles typically linked to the opposite gender.
• Adjust eyes, colors, and other features for better alignment.
• Equip outfits available to your current gender that fit the desired style.
• Return to trainer info, edit, and apply changes to update your avatar.

This method preserves progress but limits full costume access.

Creating a New Profile for True Change

For unrestricted access to opposite-gender cosmetics:

• On Nintendo Switch, add a new user profile via system settings.
• Launch Pokémon Unite under the new user and select preferred gender during setup.
• Mobile players can create fresh accounts linked to different emails or devices.

Drawback: All progress, Aeos coins, and items reset on new profiles.

Platform-Specific Considerations

Switch offers smoothest multi-trainer management.

Why No Direct Gender Swap Exists

Developers likely restrict this to gate content behind purchases. Opposite-gender outfits remain unavailable, pushing new account creation for full variety.

Community forums echo frustration over missing feature despite extensive other edits like hair and skin.

Advanced Tips for Cross-Gender Looks

• Hairstyle Priority: Prioritize long or styled hair for female mimicry on male bases, or short cuts for reverse.
• Outfit Layering: Mix neutral items; avoid gender-locked exclusives.
• Color Matching: Sync skin, hair, and eye tones for cohesion.
• Event Cosmetics: Watch for universal items during events.

Test combinations in the makeover preview before confirming.

Community Workarounds and Feedback

Players share YouTube tutorials demonstrating tweaks, emphasizing no true swap but effective illusions.

Forums discuss desires for future updates, though no official changes announced.

Preserving Progress Across Accounts

No cross-account transfer exists. Link accounts to Nintendo or Pokémon Trainer Club for cloud saves per profile only.

Strategy: Main account for ranked play; alt for casual styling experiments.

Future Updates and Hopes

Patch notes rarely address trainer gender. Monitor official channels for potential additions.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

• Assuming paid items unlock opposite cosmetics—they don’t.
• Forgetting to save edits post-makeover.
• Overlooking platform login requirements for new profiles.
