They say that the couple have three places they call home. One is Hyderabad in India. Then there’s Sialkot in Pakistan. However, their main base is located on the beautiful Jumeirah island in Dubai. It’s also very convenient for them. After all, they’re both famous in their respective sports and are still active participants. So, they keep travelling to most parts of the world and there isn’t one flight that doesn’t have a layover at Dubai. They both make sure that they accompany each other to tournaments when they’re not playing or preparing for an event. They support each other in the best possible way, like team-mates do.

Shoaib Malik

  • Shoaib was born on the 1st of February, 1982 in Sialkot in the Punjab province of Pakistan.
  • He has a real deep connection to Hyderabad. He was reportedly married to another Hyderabadi, Ayesha Siddiqui in 2002. Interestingly, this wedding took place on a phone call from Sialkot to Hyderabad. When Ayesha Siddiqui came out with the allegation before the Sania-Shoaib wedding in 2010, Shoaib said that he had been fooled. He was shown a picture of a different woman and the woman he was married to was someone else. So, the marriage never took place in the eyes of the law. However, according to sharia, the marriage was legal. So there was a super quick divorce according to sharia where Malik said Talaq, Talaq, Talaq. He then married Sania.
  • Shoaib Malik was first selected for the Pakistan under–15 side and made his international debut for the Pakistan national team in 1999 aged only 17.
  • Aged 25 in 2007, he became the fourth youngest captain in Pakistan cricket history and almost led his side to a memorable T20 World cup championship only to lose to India in the finals.
  • He was banned from cricket in 2010 due to misconduct on the tour to Australia. The ban was later overturned.
  • As of 2015, he played his final test match for his country retiring from the format. According to him, he owed his comeback to Sania. Apparently, she told him, “Do you want to be remembered as the husband of Sania Mirza?” So, he worked hard and made his comeback and is now an integral part of the Pakistan ODI side.

They’ve been together through thick and thin. They’ve been criticized for everything including falling in love and marrying someone from across the border. However, they’ve stuck together and overcome all obstacles like true team-mates. Hats off to this amazing couple. May they have a long and prosperous marriage.
