Memorial Day Switch Deals Offset Switch 2 Costs

Memorial Day sales are delivering substantial discounts on Nintendo Switch games, providing gamers with affordable ways to build their libraries just as Nintendo Switch 2 titles command premium prices. These promotions highlight backward compatibility benefits, allowing players to snag original Switch versions at reduced rates and upgrade later for less than buying new editions outright.

Why These Sales Matter Now

The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 has introduced higher price points for its native games, often starting at $70 or more, compared to many original Switch titles that now dip below $50 during sales. Retailers like Amazon’s Woot, Walmart, and Nintendo’s own eShop are slashing prices on popular franchises, making it an ideal time to stock up. For instance, backward compatibility means most Switch games run on the new console, turning these deals into future-proof investments.

Gamers face a strategic choice: pay full price for Switch 2-enhanced versions or buy discounted originals and add upgrade packs. This approach can save $10 to $20 per title, easing the transition to the next-gen hardware.

Top Discounted Titles to Grab

Several standout deals are available across major retailers, focusing on family-friendly party games, epic adventures, and RPGs. Here’s a curated selection:

• Super Mario Party Jamboree: Down to $44.99 from $59.99 at Woot, a 25% cut. The Switch 2 edition with TV upgrade pack lists at $79.99, but pairing this deal with the $19.99 upgrade yields a total under $65.
• The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: Available for $51.99 at Walmart (from $69.99), with deeper cuts like $44 at Woot in some listings. Switch 2 upgrades are free for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.
• Super Mario RPG: Halved to $29.99 from $59.99 at Woot, perfect for RPG enthusiasts.
• Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: $42.99 at Woot (from $59.99), a rare discount on this multiplayer staple.
• Sonic X Shadow Generations: $34 at Amazon (32% off $49.99).

These prices represent some of the lowest seen recently, with many matching or beating holiday lows from prior years.

Smart Savings Strategies for Switch 2 Owners

Backward compatibility is a game-changer. Nintendo confirms most original Switch games work on Switch 2, exceptions aside. Key tactics include:

• Buy original Switch physical or digital copies during sales.
• Pre-order upgrade packs, often $15-$20, for enhanced graphics and features.
• Leverage Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack for free upgrades on select titles like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, whose Switch 2 versions MSRP at $69 and $79.

This table illustrates potential savings, emphasizing why sales timing is crucial.

Deeper Dives into Retailer Promotions

Amazon’s Woot leads with flash sales on first-party Nintendo titles, offering 25-50% off. Walmart matches with Zelda deals, while Nintendo’s eShop features digital discounts on third-party ports like Immortals Fenyx Rising ($7 from $39) and The Witcher 3 ($9 from $39). GameStop’s buy-2-get-1-free applies even to first-party games, stacking value for bulk buyers.

Physical copies provide collectible appeal and resale potential, unlike digital-only eShop deals. Check stock frequently, as popular titles sell out quickly during Memorial Day.

Hidden Gems in the Sales

Beyond blockbusters, uncover value in lesser-highlighted titles:

• Immortals Fenyx Rising: $7 at Nintendo eShop – open-world action echoing Breath of the Wild.
• Sifu: $11 from $39 – intense beat-’em-up with roguelike elements.
• The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: $9 or $44.99 complete edition at Best Buy – sprawling RPG epic.
• Super Chariot: 90% off digitally – chaotic co-op platformer.

These budget picks expand libraries without breaking the bank, ideal for Switch 2 prep.

Future-Proofing Your Game Collection

With Switch 2 launching amid these sales, investing now secures enhanced play later. Nintendo’s upgrade ecosystem rewards patient buyers, especially NSO subscribers. Monitor eShop for ongoing deals via Nintendo’s sales page.

Anticipate more promotions around Switch 2’s full rollout, but Memorial Day offers immediate relief from inflated new-game costs.
