Mafia: The Old Country Game Pass Status

Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, Mafia: The Old Country transports players to the harsh criminal landscape of 1900s Sicily. While Xbox promotes cloud streaming for the title, it requires a full purchase and is not included in Game Pass subscriptions at launch.

Current Availability on Xbox Game Pass

Mafia: The Old Country is not available on Xbox Game Pass for PC or console upon release. Official sources confirm no day-one inclusion, and no future plans have been announced. Xbox listings note it as “cloud playable with Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate,” but emphasize that game purchase is required. This means subscribers can stream it via cloud gaming after buying the base game for $49.99 (Standard) or $59.99 (Deluxe).

• No free access through any Game Pass tier at launch.
• Cloud streaming supported post-purchase on Xbox.com or app.
• Potential for later addition remains unconfirmed by 2K or Microsoft.

Storyline and Setting in 1900s Sicily

The game delves into the origins of organized crime, set against the backdrop of early 20th-century Sicily. Players embody Enzo Favara, a young man escaping a life of forced labor to seek honor within the Torrisi family. His journey involves ruthless decisions, betrayals, and survival in a world of feuding clans and oppressive authorities.

Sicily’s diverse landscapes—from crumbling ruins and vineyards to opera houses and crypts—provide an immersive open-world feel. Enzo navigates cobbled streets on horseback or vintage automobiles, evoking the era’s gritty authenticity. The narrative emphasizes moral ambiguity, where ambition clashes with loyalty in the unforgiving mafia underworld.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

Combat is visceral and versatile, offering melee duels with blades for stealth ambushes or brutal close-quarters fights. Firearms include period-accurate handguns, rifles, and shotguns, allowing players to adapt to scenarios like defending against rivals or executing hits.

Exploration encourages dynamic travel: gallop across fields, speed through dirt roads in early automobiles, or infiltrate hidden locations. Missions blend shooting, stealth, and driving, with Enzo’s progression tied to proving his worth through increasingly dangerous tasks.

Editions and Purchase Options

The Standard Edition ($49.99) delivers the core experience. The Deluxe Edition ($59.99) adds cosmetic bonuses like outfits and weapons for Enzo, enhancing mafioso flair. Both are available on Xbox Store, Steam, and 2K’s site, with cross-platform cloud support on Xbox.

• Standard: Base game only.
• Deluxe: Includes bonus collectibles and early content unlocks.
• Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), cloud streaming.

ESRB rates it Mature 17+ for intense violence, blood, gore, language, and alcohol use.

Why Cloud Play Matters for Game Pass Users

Xbox Cloud Gaming enables streaming without high-end hardware, ideal for Game Pass members who buy the game. Access via browser or app requires stable internet, supporting Essential/Premium/Ultimate tiers. This hybrid model lets subscribers play premium titles like Mafia: The Old Country remotely, bridging purchase and subscription ecosystems.

Community Expectations and Future Prospects

Fans speculate on post-launch Game Pass integration, given 2K’s history with services. However, sources indicate no commitments yet. The game’s focus on narrative-driven action positions it as a strong candidate for eventual inclusion, similar to prior Mafia titles.
