1. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)

This was a film where Shah Rukh, Kajol and Rani delighted us all with their adorable and memorable performances. The first half is the story of a college going trio, two girls and a guy. As expected one of them loves the guy and the guy is in love with that another girl. Behind its display of love and its complexities, the movie is all about understanding the value of love and of that person who unconditionally loves you. 2. Andaz (1949)

This is considered to be one of the classic love triangle movies in Indian cinema starring Hindi cinema heavyweights Dilip Kumar, Nargis and Raj Kapoor. It is an intriguing story of a guy who falls in love with a girl who is already engaged. He nevertheless proposes to her only to leave her agitated. Eventually, her fiancé (now husband) learns of it and assaults her lover causing a severe concussion that leaves him berserk. One day, in his state of indomitable madness he attempts to kill the girl he had always loved who sadly ends up shooting him in self-defence. 3. Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)

Another one of Badshah Khan’s famed love triangle movies, with a somewhat similar formula to that of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Just like KKHH this features dual love triangles and in fact in the second half almost becomes a love quadrangle! It is a story that revolves around a girl who is in search for true love. A theatre artist soon falls in love with her who in turn is adored by his friend, an actress. While the first half is predictable, in the second half you have another guy, who in the very end, tries to ardently woo the actress. It is a story which is all about having faith and patience. No matter how much frustrated you feel, there will always be that special person in the world specially made for you.

4. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

This Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is one of those love triangle movies in the garb of an Indian cultural values narration. It shows a girl falling in love with a family friend much to the disapproval of her own family. She is married off to a rich guy but continues to have feelings for her first love. Her husband comes to know of her fling and decides to sacrifice his love by reuniting the lost love birds. Eventually, guilt takes over and she decides to stay back with her hubby. The movie was a commercial success since the audience was touched by the point that the tale is all about appreciating the sacrifice made by the ones who truly love you and learning to respect their feelings.

5. Dhadkan (2000)

This was a movie that came during the peak of the Akshay Kumar Shilpa Shetty affair. It is another love triangle with a fourth character. It is a story of girl coming face to face with her lover, years after she is married. She has fallen in love with her husband by now and does not wish to return back to her former love. Reluctantly, her preceding lover concedes, only to discover he has a secret admirer in the form of his business partner who fell in love with him at first sight. The movie is about undervaluing love and that person who loves us. It also sends out a message that love is about gaining trust through determination and sacrifice.

6. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

The story is a London-based romantic comedy involving a muddled single girl, played by Renee Zellweger, who seems to be desperately in search of true love. Due to this innate desire, it does not take much time for her to develop a crush on her boss. While she maintains certain flirtations with her boss, she realises she is slowly warming up to one of her childhood best friend. 7. Casablanca (1942)

It is that movie which inspired the Bollywood film Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002) that borrowed the same name but just translated it; ; like quite a few other love triangle movies. Just like Bridget Jones’s Diary, this is a romantic comedy, this time starring two girls and a guy. The guy and a girl are best friends and one day he informs her about his wedding plans. When she learns of this it dawns upon her that she is madly in love with him and decides to sabotage the wedding but with no fruitful results. Eventually, her best friend gets married leaving her with a void and broken heart. The movie conveys the point that if you really love someone then say it to them. If they love you too they will surely come back to you. If not, then well, there will still be dancing.

10. Indecent Proposal (1993)

This one stars the stunning Demi Moore and has her play the role of a wife in a husband-wife pair, who are trying to strike gold in the dazzling Las Vegas. The lady catches the fancy of a billionaire who offers an exorbitant amount of money to the husband for a night with his wife. What seems like a flimsy tale at the surface is actually a story of a woman torn between two men, with so many difficult choices to make. It presents certain connotations of respecting and loving yourself first before you actually learn to commit to someone else.
