LEGO Pixar Luxo Jr Lamp Revealed

The world of collectible toys just got a whole lot brighter with the announcement of the LEGO Ideas Disney Pixar Luxo Jr. set. This innovative build captures the essence of Pixar’s very first mascot, transforming a simple desk lamp into a fully posable display piece that fans can interact with. Featuring 613 meticulously designed pieces, the set retails for $69.99 and hits shelves on June 1, 2025, with pre-orders already live.

The Legacy of Luxo Jr: From Short Film to Cultural Icon

Luxo Jr. first bounced onto screens in 1986 as the star of Pixar’s inaugural short film. This humble desk lamp, paired with a bouncy red ball, demonstrated groundbreaking computer animation techniques that would define the studio’s future. Nearly four decades later, it remains a staple in Pixar intros, symbolizing creativity and playfulness.

What makes Luxo Jr. enduring? Its anthropomorphic design—complete with expressive ‘eyes’ formed by counterweights and a personality conveyed through simple movements—proved that audiences could connect emotionally with non-human characters. The short film’s playful interaction, where the lamp ‘squishes’ the ball, became legendary, inspiring countless homages in Pixar films.

• 1986 Debut: Luxo Jr. short wins acclaim at festivals.
• Signature Moves: Bouncing, hopping, and rotating define its charm.
• Intro Staple: Appears before every Pixar feature since Toy Story.

Building the Magic: Design and Features of LEGO 21357

LEGO’s take on Luxo Jr. (set number 21357) isn’t just a static model; it’s engineered for movement. The lamp’s swing arm bends and rotates, mimicking real desk lamps, while the shade features a functional ball joint for tilting. Builders can recreate the iconic bounce by positioning the lamp dynamically on its base.

At 8 inches tall and 6 inches wide, it’s compact yet detailed, perfect for desks or shelves. The build process, clocking in at around an hour for experienced builders, emphasizes articulation over sheer size. Key highlights include:
