Legion Go S Beats Steam Deck Price in UK

Portable gaming devices have exploded in popularity, transforming how gamers enjoy titles anywhere. Among these, the Lenovo Legion Go S stands out with recent price drops making it the most affordable option in the UK market. Currently available for £329.99, it undercuts even the base Steam Deck model, delivering strong performance and versatile features.

Current Pricing Landscape in the UK and US

In the UK, the Legion Go S with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is priced at £329.99 on Amazon, a significant reduction from its original £500+ launch price. This positions it £20 below the Steam Deck LCD 256GB variant, which retails higher despite similar AMD Ryzen chipset performance. The discount reflects ongoing promotions that have progressively lowered costs since July.

Across the Atlantic, the higher-spec 32GB RAM / 1TB model is available for $499.99 at Best Buy, a $200 cut from $729.99. While not as aggressive proportionally, it remains competitive against Steam Deck alternatives, especially for users seeking more storage and memory.

Hardware Breakdown: How Legion Go S Stacks Up

The Legion Go S features an impressive 8-inch display at higher resolutions like 1920×1200 or up to 2560×1600 in premium variants, with refresh rates reaching 144Hz. This dwarfs the Steam Deck’s 7-inch 1280×800 60Hz screen and edges out the ROG Ally’s 7-inch 1080p 120Hz panel.

Powered by AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme or the newer Z2 Go chipset, it matches or exceeds rivals in processing power. Paired with 16GB or 32GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB SSD storage, it handles demanding games smoothly. Windows 11 provides broad compatibility with Steam, Epic, Xbox Game Pass, and more, unlike the SteamOS-limited Deck.

• Display Superiority: Larger 8-inch screen for immersive play.
• Performance Edge: Ryzen Z2 Go offers potential frame rate boosts over Z1 Extreme in competitors.
• Storage Flexibility: Expandable up to 1TB, surpassing base Deck models.

Performance Comparisons Across Benchmarks

Real-world tests show the Legion Go S achieving frame rates on par with the Steam Deck OLED and ROG Ally in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Elden Ring at medium settings. The Z2 Go chipset promises slight uplifts, positioning it favorably against the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally, which shares similar specs but at higher rumored prices.

Battery life varies, with reports of 2-4 hours in intensive games across all devices, though Windows handhelds like the Go S and Ally tend toward shorter durations than optimized SteamOS. However, the Go S’s efficient AMD architecture mitigates this.

Why Choose Legion Go S Over Steam Deck?

For UK buyers, the price advantage is undeniable—£329.99 gets you Windows versatility, a bigger higher-res screen, and equivalent power without SteamOS tinkering. The Deck excels in native Steam integration and battery efficiency but lacks the display punch and multi-launcher ease.

Upcoming $499 Legion Go S models with SteamOS options will further blur lines, offering Deck-like software with superior hardware at matching prices.

ROG Ally and Xbox Ally: Close Rivals but Pricier

The Asus ROG Ally starts at $599 for base Z1 Extreme models, with the Ally X at $799 for 24GB/1TB. These provide solid 1080p 120Hz displays but smaller screens and higher costs. The Legion Go S’s pricing and screen size make it a stronger value pick.

Rumored ROG Xbox Ally variants may integrate deeper Xbox ecosystem ties, but at premium pricing around $600+, they won’t challenge the Go S’s budget throne.

Pros and Cons of the Legion Go S

• Pros: Unbeatable UK price, large vivid display, powerful Ryzen chip, Windows flexibility, expandable storage.
• Cons: Battery life middling on Windows, bulkier design, occasional software quirks vs. SteamOS.

Ideal for gamers wanting a do-it-all handheld without ecosystem lock-in.

Future of Handheld Gaming: What’s Next?

Lenovo plans SteamOS variants and Z1 Extreme configs at $499, directly rivaling Valve. Asus’s Ally refreshes and MSI Claw updates intensify competition, but current Go S deals set a value benchmark.

Expect improved batteries, brighter screens, and AI-enhanced upscaling as AMD’s Strix Halo APUs roll out.
