The Grand Wedding: Jr. NTR Ties The Knot With Lakshmi Pranathi Nandamuri
Jr. NTR (Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Junior) is one of the biggest stars ever in the Tollywood industry, and is a household name in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Apart from being a brilliant actor, he is an accomplished Kuchipudi dancer as well. And when it comes to the Young Tiger’s own wedding, fans were falling all over themselves and leaving not a single stone unturned to celebrate alongside their favourite hero. Even though Jr. NTR has been accused of having affairs with many Tollywood actors like Sameera Reddy in the past, when the young hero did get hitched, it was an arranged marriage. And none other than Chandrababu Naidu is responsible for bringing about this match. The A1 Star’s engagement to Lakshmi Pranathi Nandamuri was a very hush-hush affair. But news about his impending nuptials spread through the media, and the couple released a few snaps of themselves to the media. Jr. NTR, as you probably know, is the son of N. Harikrishna, the eldest son of NT Rama Rao, who was a noted film actor and the founder of Telugu Desam Party (TDP). His wife is the daughter of Narne Srinivasa Rao, who owns the famous Telugu news channel “Studio N”. Laksmi Pranathi’s mother also happens to be Chandrababu Naidu’s niece, which is how the proposal for this match came about. At the time of her marriage, she was but eighteen years old, and had just completed the second year of her intermediate schooling at Nazar Junior College in Hyderabad.

And what a regal celebration their wedding was! It was almost as if the entire Andhra region had become one in joining in with their celebrations. They got married in the wee hours of the morning on 5th May, 2011 as thousands and thousands of fans thronged the venue to catch a glimpse of the A1 Star and his gorgeous bride! The wedding was held at Hitex at Madhapur, Hyderabad. The whole wedding was planned with care and alacrity and was definitely an affair to be remembered. The wedding had a “purple and gold” theme, which are royal colours indeed that befit this lovely couple. The elaborate sets were designed by South India’s own award winning art director, Anand Sai. The decor was was a vision of perfection, which was created by Hyderabad’s most sought-after wedding planner, Dinaz Noria. Over one hundred people worked hard, day and night for well over a week to ensure that the sets and decor were indeed perfect to the last dot. When finished, the mandapam for the wedding reached a height of a whopping one hundred and sixty feet! The grandeur and elegance of the venue must be seen to be believed. The floral decorations, the lighting, the many layered domes topped off with auspicious golden kalashamwere simply picture perfect and could have come straight out of any royal wedding from the past!

And the who’s who of the Telugu world were also in full attendance. An estimated fifteen thousand guests attended this grandiose event, of which around twelve thousand were his fans! Who wouldn’t love such amazingly loyal fans! Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and well known politicians like Dasari Narayana Rao, Chandrababu Naidu , Purandeshwari, were just some of the honoured guests at the event. Several well known faces from Tollywood also attended the event. Actors like Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, Nagarjuna, Kalyan Ram, Balakrishna, Sai Kumar, Vamsi Padipalli, Mohan Babu ,Priyamani, Nag Chaitanya, Nagendra Babu, directors K. Raghavendra Rao and Rajamouli, producers Suresh Babu and Ramoji Rao were just some of the big names who made it to this wedding of a lifetime.
It was estimated by various sections of the media that around eighteen crore was spent on this wedding. It was also telecast live on all the regional channels. This was set to background scores that were specially composed for this occasion by fans and noted music director Arjun. Playback singers Krishna Chaitanya and Geeta Madhuri lent their mellifluous voices that thrilled all of the Young Tiger’s fans lucky to be witnessing the Junior NTR marriage. The muhurrat (or muhurtam as it is known in the South) for the wedding was set at 2:41 am. The couple held a pre-wedding reception before the wedding. For their reception, the young blushing bride looked a vision of true beauty, dressed in a lime green saree coupled with a young, pink blouse. She looked radiant, with her side-swept hair that was embellished with a matching pink flower and a tiny matha patti. Jr. NTR looked dapper in his cream embroidered sherwani.

After the reception came the wedding ceremony that was conducted in the traditional Telugu fashion. The groom was dressed in traditional cream shirt and dhoti and was seen sporting some exquisite jewellery which made him look very regal. As for his young, lovely bride, she was simply a picture of beauty in her off-white, golden and mauve silk saree which was embroidered to perfection. Her hair was pulled back into the traditional, long South Indian braid, which was embellished with fresh jasmine flowers and traditional hair jewellery. Both the bride and the groom wore the baasikam, which is special accessory that you’ll find only in the Andhra region. The baasikam rests on that part of the forehead which at the confluence of several important nerve endings, thus protecting these nerves. It is believed that the baasikam wards off all ill omens and evil spirits during the marriage ceremony.
The thousands that were gathered at the venue, and the millions watching at home all erupted in uncensored cheers as the Young Tiger tied the knot on the mangalsutra, thus solemnizing the marriage. The young bride could be seen smiling secretively, as she became his wife. Once this was over, as is the custom, the couple received blessings from all of the elders who were present at the occasion.
The couple has been happily married now for the past five years. The couple was blessed with a baby boy on the 22nd of July last year. The proud parents have named their son Abhay Ram.
