GTA 6 Trailer Links to RDR2 Universe

Rockstar Games has mastered the art of hiding subtle details in their trailers, and the second GTA 6 trailer, released on May 6, 2025, is no exception. At a fleeting moment around 2:07, flying $10 bills in a strip club scene bear the faces of Presidents Thaddeus Waxman and Franklin Hardin—figures straight from Red Dead Redemption 2‘s lore. This discovery has ignited passionate discussions among fans about whether GTA and RDR truly share a universe.

The Hidden Detail That Changed Everything

The trailer showcases Vice City and the state of Leonida in stunning detail, following protagonists Jason and Lucia as they navigate crime and conspiracy. Amid the chaos of money being thrown, keen-eyed viewers paused the footage to reveal portraits of RDR2’s fictional leaders. Thaddeus Waxman, who governed during the 1899 events of RDR2, appears with his distinctive mustache, alongside Franklin Hardin. These aren’t random designs; they match newspaper clippings and in-game lore from the Wild West epic.

This isn’t isolated. Previous games like GTA 5 featured books by ‘J. Marston’—a clear wink to John Marston—and Sasquatch myths echo across both series. Weapon brands like ‘Duke’ from RDR2 have also surfaced in GTA 6 screenshots, adding layers to the connection.

Building a Case for a Shared Timeline

Rockstar’s worlds blend satire and history seamlessly. RDR2’s 1899-1907 setting precedes GTA’s modern eras by over a century, making chronological links plausible. Real-world place names in RDR (New York, San Francisco) contrast GTA’s fictional ones (Liberty City, San Andreas), but fans argue this reflects evolving parody—RDR as ‘historical’ fiction, GTA as contemporary critique.

• Visual Evidence: Dollar bills with RDR presidents confirm continuity of in-game currency and leadership lineage.
• Lore Overlaps: Shared myths, books, and brands suggest a persistent fictional fabric.
• Developer Patterns: Rockstar’s history of cross-references, from GTA Vice City nods to Scarface to multiplayer cameos.

Debates rage on Reddit, with some calling it definitive proof, others dismissing it as Easter eggs. User cph2001’s post garnered thousands of upvotes, splitting the community.

Rockstar’s Legacy of Interconnected Worlds

Since GTA 3 in 2001, Rockstar has woven a multiverse. GTA 4’s Liberty City mirrors RDR’s influences, while Online updates introduced RDR-themed content. RDR2’s epilogue in 1907 bridges to 20th-century GTA eras. If confirmed, GTA 6 could expand this, perhaps with time-spanning narratives or multiverse mechanics.

Fan Theories and Counterarguments

Enthusiasts propose Leonida as a future version of RDR’s fictional America, with currency honoring past presidents. Critics highlight geographical mismatches: RDR uses real states, GTA invents them. Yet, the cash detail is too specific for coincidence, especially post-RDR2’s 2018 release.

YouTube breakdowns, like those analyzing landmarks, amplify the hype. One video posits shared tech trees, from revolvers to modern arms.

What This Means for GTA 6’s Story

GTA 6’s narrative of heists gone wrong in sunny Vice City gains depth if tied to RDR2. Expect deeper lore dives, perhaps family lineages or artifact hunts linking eras. Rockstar’s silence fuels speculation ahead of the 2026 release.

Broader Implications for Rockstar Games

A confirmed shared universe opens doors for crossovers, remakes, or a ‘Rockstar Universe’ hub. Imagine GTA Online events with RDR characters or vice versa. It solidifies Rockstar’s storytelling prowess, blending Western grit with urban chaos.

Technical Marvels in the Trailer

Beyond Easter eggs, Trailer 2 dazzles with photorealistic crowds, dynamic weather, and fluid animations—setting benchmarks RDR2 fans recreate in fan trailers. Screenshots reveal 70+ new assets, from neon streets to swamps.

Community Reactions and Predictions

1. Reddit explodes: ‘Same universe confirmed!’ vs. ‘Just a fun nod.’
2. YouTube views skyrocket, with frame-by-frame dissections.
3. Predictions: In-game RDR museums or time-travel missions.
