Evolving Scyther to Scizor in Scarlet & Violet

Scyther transforms into the formidable Scizor through a trade evolution requiring a Metal Coat, making it a staple for competitive teams in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This guide covers acquisition, evolution steps, locations, and strategies.

Understanding Scyther and Its Evolution Paths

Scyther is a Bug/Flying-type Pokemon known for its high speed and attack stats, but it evolves into two distinct forms: Scizor (Bug/Steel) or Kleavor (Bug/Rock). Scizor gains superior defense and typing, trading speed for bulk.

• Scyther Base Stats: HP 70, Attack 110, Defense 80, Sp. Atk 55, Sp. Def 80, Speed 105.
• Scizor Stats: HP 70, Attack 130, Defense 100, Sp. Atk 55, Sp. Def 80, Speed 65 – ideal for physical sweeping.

Kleavor offers different strengths but requires Legends: Arceus for evolution in this game via Pokemon Home transfer.

Finding and Catching Scyther

Scyther appears in various biomes across Paldea and the Indigo Disk DLC. Target mass outbreaks for higher shiny odds and levels.

Use False Swipe and status moves for catches. In Indigo Disk, Canyon Biome hosts higher-level encounters post-DLC.

Acquiring the Essential Metal Coat

The Metal Coat is crucial for Scizor’s evolution. Purchase it reliably from Delibird Presents shops under the Battle Item tab for 3,000 Poke Dollars.

• Levincia Delibird Presents: East Mesagoza, accessible mid-game.
• Other Locations: Mesagoza, Cascarrafa – stock rotates, so check multiple.
• Auctions: Porto Marinada, less reliable due to bidding.

Equip via Pokemon summary: Select Scyther > Give Item > Metal Coat.

Performing the Trade Evolution Solo

Traditional trading needs a partner, but use Link Trade codes for random matches. No friends required.

1. Enter Poke Portal via menu.
2. Select Link Trade, set code 0260 (Scyther’s Regional Dex #260, padded with zero).
3. Trade your Metal Coat-holding Scyther; it evolves on receipt, trade back.

This method works consistently via global player pool. Ensure online subscription.

Alternative Methods to Obtain Scizor

Skip evolution by raiding or wild hunting.

• Tera Raids: 5-6 star raids post-main story (Academy Ace Tournament for 6-star). Scizor appears rarely.
• Indigo Disk Wild: Canyon Biome for direct catches, levels 65+.

Scizor vs. Kleavor: Which to Choose?

Scizor excels in PvP with Technician-boosted moves; Kleavor suits story play.

Optimizing Scizor for Battles

Post-evolution, teach Swords Dance, Bullet Punch, Knock Off, U-turn. Hold Choice Band or Life Orb. EVs: 252 Atk/252 HP/4 Spe.

• Tera Type: Steel or Fire for coverage.
• Team Synergy: Pairs with Fairy/Ghost to handle Fires.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

• No Evolution: Confirm Metal Coat held and trade completes fully.
• Code Fails: Use exact 0260; restart Poke Portal if laggy.
• Stock Missing: Progress story to unlock more Delibird shops.
