9 Simple Facts Every Bride Should Know About Her Husband

By Jayant MenonJayant Menon  •

The days leading up to the wedding, and married life beyond that, are some of the most magical in any bride’s life, but they are in a sense disconnected from reality. And that’s okay, in fact, we’d rather not have it any other way.

But just like throwing away all the niggling fears and embracing another person – and trusting them – is so rewarding; being smart, well-informed and realistic are some great tools to have in the bag as well. So, here are 9 simple facts every bride needs to know about her husband to be.

1. He Will Be There With You, For Better Or Worse

And “for worse” is a very real option too. There will be times you will not want to see his face, and that’s okay, but just know that such a thing will happen. If you plan on spending the rest of your life in close proximity to someone else, you can bet there will be some friction.

2. There Might Not Be Too Many Shared Interests

Taking long walks down the pier is not a shared interest, it is something you did together while dating. The both of you might snuggle up on the couch to catch some of the late night creature feature, but his interests in woodworking and your cross stich expertise are not aligned. Even if the both of you like to read, what, how and where you like to read might not match, and that is absolutely fine.

3. He Will Want To Be Alone At Times

Do not sweat it, it means nothing more than that he wants to be alone. The thing is, you will experience this too. If the both of you gently check in on the other person after a while, not invading their private time or ignoring them for having requested it, you will find alone time doing a lot of good for you guys as well.

4. You Will Have To Face Problems Together

This is how love deepens more and more over the years, the fact that if the two of you have an argument, neither can not see the other for a week and do other stuff. You’re both to share the same bedroom now, and so much more. So start talking about what pisses you off, and what you appreciate the other person doing to stop it.

5. Your Husband Is His Own Man

There’s never really a great time to think about changing the man in your life, but if there were one, it sure wouldn’t be after you have married him. The fact is, stop wondering why he isn’t more like your co-worker or brother or his own brother or anyone else. Who he is is who he is, and now that you’ve accepted him, work on moving past the trivialities, and focusing on the bigger stuff.

6. Your Husband Will Change

No matter what age you married him at, but especially if you married young, your husband will change in how he acts, what he likes, what he does and who he is entirely. That’s not to say he’ll be a completely knew man within 2 years of you marrying him, the likes of whom you can’t even recognize, but even that is a possibility. Here’s what you need to know: You can’t force the change, and you will change too. It’s all part of the journey called life.

7. Your Marriage Is Different, So Is Everyone Else’s

What’s more, marriage is a long term commitment, so keep plugging away on those long term goals and plans, and don’t worry too much about what the Jones’ are upto. Just like a Facebook wall, you never see anything about any other marriage other than what they want you to see.

8. You’re Marrying His Family As Well

And if you hate his mother with a passion, remember she birthed and raised the wonderful and caring guy that you’re married to, so cut her some slack, and tell her to only visit during the major holidays.

9. You Will See His Unpolished Side

And if you haven’t before, this might come as a bit of a shock, or a rather major one as well. But just now, you cannot put up a façade every day of the rest of your lives, and neither can he. And the fact that he trusts you is why he’s opening up in front of you and showing his rougher side. Everyone has one, no one is perfect, and no one can be expected to be.
