Home » More » Celebrity Weddings 7 Evergreen Bollywood Weddings That'll Encourage Timeless Love by Tejaswi Bhagavatula August 10, 2015 Leave a reply Bollywood is the second largest film industry in the world after Hollywood, and probably the most vibrant cinema community with a bouquet of films in different genres being doled out by the hundreds every year. Film stars in India still have an aura, a kind of halo that the stars like Marilyn Monroe and Gary Cooper commanded back in the 60s. From yesteryear heartthrobs and legends like Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Raj Kapoor, to many of the glamorous divas and ever-youthful actresses Rekha, Nargis, Jaya Bhaduri and more; they all have been individuals with a larger than life charisma and a magnetic appeal with generations of movie lovers in India. And then there are the Bollywood weddings. Private lives of film stars, their relationships and weddings in particular have always fascinated movie-goers and ardent fans alike. Bollywood gossip and scandals are every fodder for the media and the billion strong readership, everyday. The curiosity to know more and learn about the inside stories, reaches fervent levels if both the individuals in a relationship are actors, and even better if they are co-stars who have been dating for a while. . Movies get made just because they are seeing each other in their real lives, driven by the mass frenzy and the average Bollywood movie goers’ intense interest, liking and emotional connect that they have with their stars. In such a scenario, it is not the least surprising that the nation came to a stand-still when Amitabh got injured on the sets of Coolie or when the real life triangular love story of Jaya, Rekha and Amitabh played out in cinemas as Silsila. We are forever curious to know how they’ve met, where they’ve lived and when they’ve married. For all the curious cine bugs out there, here are a few of the most popular Bollywood weddings that you should know about:Amitabh Bachchan And Jaya Bhaduri Superstar Amitabh loved and married Jaya Badhuri in the year 1973. They had a great relationship and had two beautiful children – Abhishek and Shewta. But in the early 80’s Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha fell in love and almost wanted to marry. The revelation took the nation by storm and Yash Chopra pulled off a coupe of sorts by starring the three actors in the 1981 hit Silsila, which again was a triangular love story. In an interview given to Filmfare magazine in 1984, Rekha spoke about Amitabh’s denial of their relationship. She said, “Why should he have not done it? He did it to protect his image, his family, his children. Why should the public know of my love for him or his love for me? I love him and he loves me- that’s it! If he’d reacted that ways towards me in private, I would have been very disappointed.” She further added, “Mr. Bachchan is still old-fashioned. He doesn’t want to hurt anybody so why hurt his wife?” However, Amitabh and Rekha have moved on with life and are on friendly terms now. It has been ages since this happened and yet, the Jaya, Amitabh and Rekha story just doesn’t let go. But on the flip side theirs is one of the Bollywood weddings that is a beautiful relationship that’s been going strong for more than 40 years, something that everyone should be proud of and learn from. Every relationship has its share of ups and downs and what matters is how you’ve been together all through. Take a bow, Mrs. Bachchan. This is what exactly happened when Heama Malini and Dharmendra Deol acted together in their 1970 hit film, Tum Haseen Main Jawan. Dharmendra was already married and had two sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol by the time he fell in love with Hema Malini. His wife Prakash Kaur refused to divorce him and Hema’s father was dead against his daughter marrying an already married man. But love is truly blind and the love birds went to great lengths to get married and live together. They changed their names, converted to Islam and got married. According to the Indian magazine Outlook, their Nikahnama stated, “Dilawar Khan Kewal Krishn accepted Aisha Bi R. Chakravarty as his wife on 21 August 1979 at a mehr of Rs 111,000 in the presence of two legal witnesses.” Isn’t this proof enough that true love knows no rules, and lovers would go to great lengths to be together. All ended well as the tensions in their families, the film industry and the society subsided and the couple are happily living together. Their daughter Eesha and Ahana Deol have got married recently too! Hema and Dharmendra are one of the best examples of a lasting Bollywood wedding, a true credit to the film fraternity. Ritiesh, though he comes from an illustrous political background was struggling as an actor while Genelia was a pretty successful actress down south. They held on for more than ten years, were in a very taxing profession and always apart with Genelia spending most of her time in Hyderabad while Ritiesh was in Mumbai.
