Dating Ranbir Kapoor May Be Good, But Breaking Up With Him Is Better

He may be Bollywood’s playboy and heartthrob numero uno, but it turns out that breaking up with Ranbir Kapoor may be an even better choice than dating him. Wonder why? Well, going by the long list of ex-flames that have moved on to bigger and better things, it surely seems so.

Now while you may not be entirely convinced that it is ever a good thing to break up with Bollywood’s own casanova, it becomes increasingly hard to argue with how he’s unlikely to stick with you, how his mommy might not (probably will not) like you, and how all of the other girls he has been cozy with are doing so well now. Let’s take a look:

1. Avantika Malik

Legend has it that Ranbir was so in love with Avantika that he would keep showing up on the sets of Just Mohabbat just to get a glimpse of her and to get to know her better. Avantika, while flattered by the interest, was never too keen on making anything of the nascent relationship, and ended up choosing Imran Khan over Ranbir, with Ranbir even attending the duo’s wedding. What did she lose? Given Ranbir’s track record, six months of looking over her shoulder over who he was flirting with.

2. Sonam Kapoor

The details of the relationship of Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir are hazy, right from their link-up to the details of their rather unceremonious break-up. The fact is that there are conflicting reports in the media about whether Sonam is apoplectic with rage over her alleged mistreatment, or whether she considers Ranbir a close friend still – the fact remains that since the time that Ranbir and Sonam broke onto the scene as budding actors, Sonam has gone on to cement herself as a bankable star with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, I Hate Luv Storys and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to name a few. Dating Bollywood’s biggest playboy on the other hand isn’t really conducive to career building, even though conventional thinking may dictate otherwise.

3. Nandita Mahtani

Sanjay Kapoor’s ex-wife Nandita Mahtani allegedly couldn’t handle the ten year age difference between the two of them, which seems to be a bit of a shame as Ranbir allegedly was head over heels in love with her. Ranbir would later go on to appear on a famous talk show and famously proclaim that he is still in love with someone who didn’t love him – and many a folk have applied their amateur psychology techniques to claim that he was indeed talking about Nandita Mahtani. The designer went on to date Dino Morea all the while carrying on her successful boutique, designer studio and luxury event coordination business.

4. Deepika Padukone

Deepika was Ranbir’s first long-term girlfriend, with the couple dating for two years, and being quite open and public about their love for each other. What went wrong? Well, Deepika’s heartfelt comments about ‘betrayal’ and ‘serial straying’ leave certain clues, but one can never be sure. What has happened post that, however, is that Deepika has transformed herself into a tour de force, and icon of Indian cinema and beyond. Not only has she cemented her place among the contemporary greats, but she’s involved with one of the great up and coming actors of our time, Ranveer Singh.

5. Nargis Fakhri

The Bollywood bombshell and Ranbir were rumoured to be together, and then they weren’t… but there’s no smoke without fire, especially in showbiz where everyone likes to keep their affairs hush-hush, so that they don’t end up in the public domain like this. The official reason for their parting was that they were both focused on their careers, which makes little sense given that no ambitious person (97.2 % of all actors) would ever be in a relationship, ever. Still, where did that leave Nargis? A couple of sizzling numbers on screen with some of the biggest names in Bollywood, and a Hollywood production for starters. Oh, and also an ongoing romance with actor, director, producer Uday Chopra. Not bad!

6. Katrina Kaif

Okay, so this is the big one. The recent story, the open wound. The one that makes no sense, too, honestly. I mean, how does one do better than Katrina Kaif, and why would one willingly split up from one of the hottest women in the world, who is an excellent actor and a worldwide sensation to boot? Katrina oozes class, style and appeal and she’s already gotten with and moved on from Sallu Bhai, eliminating one of the biggest obstacles in your way. No matter what mommy had said to us, we don’t think we would have been going down without a fight – but then, we’re not Ranbir are we. Kat has been spotted getting cozy with ex-flame Salman post breakup (told you so) and rumors are rife of an alleged link up with Fitoor co-star and all round bad-boy Aditya Roy Kapur. The fact is, we’re sure Kat’s going to take her time and play the field, and there’s no shortage of suitors, is there?
