When Bugatti introduced the Veyron Super Sport, it didn’t simply offer a faster version of an already extraordinary machine. Instead, the company presented a comprehensively reimagined hypercar that synthesized five years of engineering knowledge into a singular pursuit of speed, precision, and capability. This vehicle represented the absolute pinnacle of what the marque had learned about pushing the boundaries of automotive performance and driver experience.
Powertrain Refinement and Power Delivery
At the core of the Super Sport experience lies an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine—a powerplant of legendary status in the automotive world. Rather than simply bolting on additional boost, Bugatti engineers undertook a comprehensive optimization of this already impressive unit. The transformation involved upgrading to four larger turbochargers, each operating 10 percent larger than their predecessors. This modification alone contributed significantly to the overall power increase.
Beyond turbocharger enhancements, the engineering team redesigned the inlet manifolds to allow freer airflow, remapped the engine control unit for optimal combustion characteristics, and upgraded the charge coolers to manage the increased thermal load. These modifications worked in concert to elevate output from 1,000 horsepower in the standard Veyron to 1,200 horsepower in the Super Sport. Torque increased proportionally, rising by 184 pound-feet to complement the power gains.
The fuel system underwent substantial revision to support these elevated outputs. The standard Veyron relied on two in-tank fuel pumps, but the Super Sport incorporated four—doubling the fueling capacity to ensure the engine never experienced fuel starvation regardless of driving intensity
