Imran Khan Marriage: From Love-Birds To Miya-Biwi

Imran Khan made his debut as the male lead in the 2008 youth-oriented film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. Although it was his first tryst as a protagonist, it was actually the third film of his career. Imran made his first foray on the silver screen playing a younger version of his maternal uncle Aamir in the films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992). Although barely got noticed in those films, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na made him a household name.

Imran tied the knot with his teenage flame Avantika Malik in 2011, nearly a decade after the couple began dating. They make for an adorable pair and had a daughter, Imara, in 2014, completing the family. Imran and Avantika are, it is clear, made for one another, but where did it all begin?

Imran Khan – The Journey To Fame And Recognition

Imran Khan, birth name Imran Pal, was born 13th January 1983 in Madison, Wisconsin, in the United States. His father, Anil Pal, was a software engineer and his mother Nuzhat Khan, a psychologist. Nuzhat Khan is the cousin of the actor Aamir Khan.

Imran was quite young when his parents divorced, after which he moved with his mother to Mumbai. It is here she remarried the actor Raj Zutshi, and Imran often regards him as the only father-figure of his life. Imran received his early education in Mumbai and later moved to a boarding school in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Thereafter, he left for the California, USA for his higher education.

Khan aspired to be a filmmaker and after the completion of his higher studies joined the film direction course at the New York Film Academy. On receiving his degree, he tried a hand at market research and advertising but eventually returned to Mumbai to join an acting training institute. It is here he happened to meet the filmmaker Abbas Tyrewala, who offered him a lead in his next film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008.

The script eventually landed on the table of Imran’s uncle Aamir Khan who agreed to produce the film. Imran’s Bollywood career took flight with the movie, and he was widely lauded by audience and critics for his sensitive and natural performance. Imran received a slew of offers thereafter, and has, since his debut, worked in 13 films. He has also been a brand ambassador for several products.

Avantika Malik – The One And Only True Love

imran and avanitka love story

Imran Khan met Avantika Malik – who began her career as a child artist – for the first time in 2002, when he was just 19-years old. Avantika Malik (b. 1987) is the daughter of Vandana Malik, who works as a senior executive in a leading media company. Hailing from a media family, Avantika set her first step in showbiz by playing a child artist in the TV show Just Mohabbat that aired on Indian television way back in 1996.

It is said around the time of making of the show the 10-year old Avantika met actor Ranbir Kapoor, who was then just 14. The young Kapoor developed a huge crush on the girl and would often make impromptu visits to the set to meet Avantika. His amorous sentiment was not reciprocated by her, who just saw him as a good friend. After five years of cold friendship, Avantika dropped contact with Ranbir in 2001 and the two set forth on their separate paths.

In the year 2002, the then 19-year old Imran Khan met the 15-year old Avantika in Mumbai. Little is known about their first meeting but the couple hit it off right from the start. In fact, so strong was their relationship that in 2004 when Imran left for the US to pursue a film direction course, the 18-year old Avantika tagged along to live with her beau.

“My family and Avantika’s were fine with it. It helped us understand the relationship better so I support it whole-heartedly.”
– Imran Khan about his early live-in relationship with Avantika

By the time they were back to India, they were a new couple – redefined in every way. There was no turning back after that and everyone knew that the two lovebirds were on their path to tying the knot.

The Proposal, Engagement And Wedding

In the year 2009, after the release of his debut film, Imran finally put forth the big question to his lady-love. He planned a romantic proposal by sneaking into Avantika’s house and decorating her room with candles. The moment she entered the room he got down on his knees with the question “Will you marry me?” The lady was thrilled – she had been waiting for that moment for quite a while now, and needless to say, she answered euphorically in the affirmative.

Imran got engaged with Avantika the following year – on 16th January 2010 – at a private ceremony held at a farmhouse owned by the Malik family. The date for wedding was set for a year later on 10th January 2011 at none other than uncle Aamir Khan’s residence. The celebrations kicked-off on 5th January 2011 with a dinner hosted by Aamir Khan followed by a mehndi ceremony a few days later at Avantika’s family farmhouse. The main nikah ceremony was held at Aamir Khan’s residence on 10th January, and thereafter a grand reception was held at a premium hotel a few days later. The couple were finally espoused – setting sail to a fresh new journey together.

Being The Picture Perfect Family

Imran and Avantika were blessed with a bundle of joy – a daughter on 9th June 2014, who was bestowed with the surname of both the mother and father, and was named Imara Malik Khan. The Khan family lives a quiet private life to the extent that Imran was often labelled as media shy. He later clarified in an interview that he loves avoiding limelight except when promoting films, and he values family time over shutterbug publicity. Way to go Mr. Khan! On that note we wish the adorable family the best for their life and tons of happy times together.
