Asin Marriage – Jab They Met

Asin Marriage - Asin Thottumkal With Akshay Kumar And Rahul Sharma

Asin Marriage - Asin With Akshay Kumar And Rahul Sharma

So just how did these two come to be? Well, according to Asin, the first time she met Rahul was at an airport, where Rahul introduced himself to her as “a friend of actor Akshay Kumar.” It was only when she was actually on her flight and on her way to the event she was supposed to be at did she learn that the flight she was on was chartered by Rahul, and that the event she was attending was sponsored by Rahul too!  The final piece in the answer lies with a certain happily married man himself, Akshay Kumar, who starred alongside Asin in Housefull 2 and Khiladi 786, who was a good friend of Asin’s as well as of Rahul’s, as Rahul had previously mentioned to Asin. It was Akshay who played cupid and suggested that the two of them get together, but Asin put that suggestion down to one of Akshay’s usual  jokes! It was only after Rahul called Asin himself and asked to meet her parents did Asin begin to take him seriously, and she was impressed by his gesture of first wanting to connect with her parents, and it was after Rahul had met her parents that the two began to grow close. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Asin Marriage – The Proposal

Asin was at Salman Khan’s 50th birthday bash on December 27, 2015 with beau Rahul, but those two weren’t the only ones that were ‘spotted’. Seen was a glorious and rather massive rock on Asin’s finger, a diamond that costs something around Rs 6 crores! No wonder Asin’s been beaming all the days leading up to her wedding! The ring was subject of much discussion and it features a monogram of the couple, “AR” with those being the first letters of their names. The ring also carries a personal message for Asin, a thoughtful addition that Rahul included for his beau.

The proposal itself was very romantic and took place in the fashion that most western engagements take place, with Rahul getting down on bended knee for his beloved, and opening the box featuring the aforementioned Belgian diamond. There was not a moment of hesitation before Asin responded with a resounding “Yes!”

Asin Marriage – The First Of The Marriages

The Card Announcing Asin Thottumkal And Rahul Sharma's Wedding

Yes, you read that right, we said “marriages” as in the plural form, and the reason for that is quite simple. Asin is a Southern gal who hails from Kerala and happens to be a devout Christian, while Rahul hails from Delhi and is a Hindu. The couple decided to honour each other’s religious beliefs by having two separate ceremonies, one Hindu and one Christian! As Akshay Kumar himself put it, the twosome are a pan-Indian couple! The first of the two ceremonies was the Christian wedding, a private event that took place at the Dusit Devarana, a luxurious hotel-cum-resort in the national capital. The guest list was limited to strictly close friends and family, with a total number of 50. The ceremony took place at 11 am on January the 19th and the theme was a classic and traditional all white. The bride looked resplendent in her white Vera Wang gown, with the groom looking dashing in his black suit and bow tie. It was, as was to be expected, Akshay Kumar who was best man for his friend Rahul, and the couple were seen to be absolutely beaming as they held hands throughout the ceremony.

Post wedding, Akshay had this to say “It was a nice affair. Everything went off very well. Asin and Rahul are very private people. Everybody has respected their privacy. It was a very simple affair and today they are very happy and I am very happy that I played the Cupid. I hope that they live like this forever.” When asked – since he was a common friend of both, but was best man for Rahul – which side he was representing, his reply was a simple “I was from both the sides.” A close relative of Rahul’s who was at the Christian ceremony also said “It was a beautiful wedding. Everyone looked amazing. It was Asin’s idea to have a Catholic wedding. We all are very happy,”

The Delhi based Elohim worship band performed at the beautiful ceremony, and sous chef Nishant Choubey had provided an extra special 10-tier vanilla flavoured wedding cake for the occasion. Lunch was an all vegetarian affair and was held at the hotel’s in house Chinese restaurant.

The Hindu Wedding

The evening ceremony took place at 6:30 pm and finished by 8:30 pm in the very same resort, the Dusit Devarana. The Hindu wedding included a jai mala and pheras, as is typical for a North Indian wedding. Akshay Kumar was present for this one as well – the only one from the Bollywood community – and he showed up in a black tuxedo.

The Rahul Sharma – Asin marriage was an extremely close guarded affair, with strict security at the resort as instructions had been given out to not let anyone pass even through the main gate of the hotel if their name wasn’t on the guest list. Many media persons who had congregated at the gates of the venue were told they were not allowed to go inside. The Hindu ceremony was attended by 200 guests, with many of Rahul’s friends from Delhi making up the numbers. Overall, 200 people attended the function, and Asin wore a Sabyasachi lehenga for the occasion. The mandap for the wedding had been constructed on top of a body of water. Dinner was again a strictly vegetarian affair, but consisted of a lavish Indian spread. It was supposed to be served in the lawns outdoors, but was later shifted and was served in the ballroom area, because of the cold outside.

Post Wedding & Future

The very next day after the wedding, a party had been organized for around 250 guests, including most of the ones that had attended the Hindu function. The party was help at Rahul’s farmhouse at Sonali Farms, West End Greens.

Asin is reportedly set to quit cinema after her marriage, but without any official word on the matter, we will just have to wait and see what she chooses! We wish these two newly-weds all the very best!
