Alan Wake 2: Rental Cabins Cult Stash Key Guide

In the atmospheric horror world of Alan Wake 2, collectibles like Cult Stashes are essential for progression and upgrades. The Rental Cabins Cult Stash in Cauldron Lake stands out as a tricky puzzle requiring the Lake Cabins Stash Key. This guide provides a complete walkthrough, including access requirements, precise navigation, and rewards, helping players fully explore this area during Saga Anderson’s Return 6 chapter.

Understanding Cult Stashes in Alan Wake 2

Cult Stashes are hidden containers scattered across the game’s maps, filled with valuable ammo, health items, and inventory expansions. Opening all of them is often necessary for 100% completion and unlocking special items like the FBC Bureau Key. In Cauldron Lake, the Rental Cabins stash is one of several, located in the northeast section of the map. Players control Saga Anderson here, investigating cult mysteries amid fallen trees and abandoned structures.

These stashes typically feature puzzles involving clues, keys, or codes drawn from the environment. The Rental Cabins version uses a visual hint on the stash itself—a drawing pointing north—directing players to search nearby landmarks.

Prerequisites for Accessing Rental Cabins

Before hunting the key, ensure Saga has the bolt cutters, obtained at the end of Return 5: Old Gods from the Wellness Center Overlap. These cut the chain on the Rental Cabins gate, located northeast on the Cauldron Lake map.

• Chapter Requirement: Return 6 or later.
• Tool Needed: Bolt cutters to enter the gated area.
• Character: Saga Anderson (flashlight essential for revealing symbols).

Without bolt cutters, the area remains inaccessible. If missed earlier, backtrack via Overlap worlds or progress the story.

Step-by-Step Directions to the Cult Stash Container

Enter the Rental Cabins through the main gate after cutting the chain. The stash is inside the southernmost cabin (often labeled as the bottom building on mental maps), specifically in the bathroom or left room. A chalk drawing on top indicates the key’s direction—north toward marked trees.

1. Approach the southern cabin and enter the door on the left side.
2. Locate the locked Cult Stash chest marked by ritualistic symbols.
3. Examine the top for the clue: a symbol matching northern trees.

The chest won’t open yet, prompting the key search.

Finding the Lake Cabins Stash Key

The key lies at the base of a tree painted with a yellow ‘2’ symbol, north of the stash cabin. Navigate obstacles like fallen trees and cabin interiors to reach it safely.

Detailed Path from Stash Cabin

Activate Saga’s flashlight to make the ‘2’ glow, a common mechanic for hidden symbols. The key spawns reliably here, tucked near roots.

Pro Tip: Enemies may patrol; use stealth or combat. The path loops through cabins to avoid direct exposure.

Returning and Opening the Stash

With the key, retrace steps south to the stash cabin. Interact with the chest to unlock and loot:

• Ammo for handgun/shotgun.
• Health kits or painkillers.
• Potential inventory row upgrade.

This contributes to the collective key for later game progression.

Visual and Map Overview

Imagine the Rental Cabins as a cluster of five numbered cabins around a yard. Stash in #1 (south), key near #5 (north). The ‘2’ tree sits in the northeast corner behind a truck, with paths weaving through structures for cover.

Key coordinates (relative): North end yard, 10-15 meters from stash, past two cabins and under one tree.

Common Challenges and Fixes

Players often miss the glowing symbol or get turned around in the yard.

• Can’t Find Tree? Ensure flashlight is on; symbol only appears under light.
• Gate Locked? Verify bolt cutters from Wellness Center.
• Key Not Spawning? Reload checkpoint or circle area fully.
• Navigation Loop? Use mental map: south stash → Cabin 3 → under tree → Cabin 5 → truck → tree.
