In spite of not having the towering figure of most bowlers, he could hurl a ball at well over 140 km/hr, and has the third highest wickets for India in one day international cricket! His ability to get some reverse swing out of a worn out ball also remains a classic memory. Like Sachin, he too was mentored by the legendary Ramakant Achrekar, and just like Sachin his marriage is a love marriage! The only slight difference, and that is the fact that Ajit’s wife comes from a different faith than his own. It’s quite a story, so let’s take a closer look at Ajit Agarkar’s marriage with Fatima Ghadially. Ajit Agarkar: A Quick Look at The Mumbai Cricketer Ajit Agarkar was born on 4th December 1977 in Mumbai, and grew up mostly living at his grandparents home at the Shivaji Park vicinity of the city. Growing up, Ajit started his coaching in cricket at Shivaji Park from none other than the aforementioned legend Ramakant Achrekar. Ajit made his first class debut against Australia in 1998, at the age of 20, and soon established a reputation of being an excellent bowler as well as a reliable batsman. He went on to accomplish the astonishing feat of becoming the third highest wicket taking Indian bowler in one-day international cricket, just behind stalwarts Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble. After a long career, Ajit called quits to the job he loved and found so much success in, and in October 2013 he announced his retirement from the game in all its forms and has been working as a cricket analyst since. Not In This Case Ajit met his lady-love somewhere around the year 1999, just a year after his international cricket debut. It is not known when and where the duo met but speculation has it that the two knew each other through Mazhar Ghadially, a former cricketer who represented Mumbai in domestic cricket in early 1990s. Fatima is Mazhar’s sister, and since Ajit had a friendship with Mazhar, it is quite likely the two happened to see each other when she would have accompanied her brother.Sponsored SearchEither way, the important thing is that it was love at first sight, and the fact that the two came from different religions did little to defer their feelings for each other, or deter them from wanting to see each other more and more. Fatima and Ajit were of the same age, and she was working as a management consultant in Mumbai, which is Ajit’s home turf. Things synced well between the pair, and therefore unsurprisingly the two became closer with each passing day. It is said that the two lovebirds made the call to share the news of their relationship in and around 2001, and their parents, being the progressive, forward thinking people that they are, were quite supportive of their affiliation.Since the couple had been seeing each other for quite some time by the time the year 2001 was drawing to a close, the couple to get married early next year, a request to which their families heeded. 2002 was to be the year their love story was to be cemented in wedlock.[Read More: Shikhar Dhawan’s Marriage]The Simple Wedding, And Blissful Life After Ajit and Fatima got married on 9th February 2002, at an extremely simple and private wedding ceremony in Mumbai. Attendees included a very select crowd, with only close family and friends making it to the guest list. The main wedding was thus a very intimate and close-knit affair. Later that day, the couple hosted a reception to which every member of the Indian cricket team was invited. Sachin Tendulkar with his wife Anjali were one of the many prominent personalities to grace the occasion. The smiles on the faces of the doting couple reflected the umpteen joy in their hearts, and the two have sure made their union a success! Ajit Agarkar’s marriage with Fatima is undoubtedly a symbol of national integration but also a representation of the fact that happy marriages are made of compatible individuals rather than homogeneous beliefs. The fact that the couple’s respective families were supportive all through the fact is also commendable, and inspires us all to think in a more progressive manner. We wish the Agarkar family all the very best, and a life filled with happiness and success!Images Source: 1, 2, 3, 4 SHARE THIS STORY ON FACEBOOK RelatedRELATED ARTICLESSachin Tendulkar Marriage: The Little Master's Love StoryMurali Vijay's Wedding: Cricket, Love, And The AllegationYusuf Pathan's Marriage With Afreen: Their Short Sweet Love TaleDev Anand's Marriage: Loving Suraiya, Marrying KalpanaDilip Kumar & Saira Banu’s Marriage: Bollywood’s Original Evergreen Love StoryGautam Gambhir Marriage: Dosti, Pyaar Aur Shaadi!
